President's Report

There is so much going on! It is always so amazing to me how fast the lazy days of summer are gone, and we are back in the normal day to day mode. Labor Day starts the month off to “officially” end the summer. Many of the communities took the summer off to enjoy it with their families will resume meetings this month. Many of us will pause and remember the heroes of September 11th on Patriot Day.

“September 11 impressed upon us that life is a precious gift. Every life has a purpose. And I think we all have a duty to devote at least a small portion of our daily lives to ensuring that neither America nor the world ever forgets September 11.” Senator Dr. Bill Frist

We will very quickly move into local events like our Professional Development Day (PDD), PMP Prep, Agile Prep, and other community meetings. Known as the chapter’s fall highlight, the Metrolina PDD entitled "Partners in Progress" will take place on Saturday 9/22/18 at Embassy Suites. With 4 exciting keynotes and 20+ track speakers, it is sure to be an exciting day of learning and fellowship among our community of Project Management Professionals and Business Analysts. I hope that you can take the day to dedicate to learn and visit with your Metrolina family!

“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” - Pele

Sincerely,

John A. Rush IV, MBA, PMP, PMI-PBA

Highlighting Chapter Members

Volunteer of the Month

Douglas Edwards

Doug has done a tremendous job of leading the relaunch of the Metrolina Mentorship Program.  Doug has spent countless hours processing applications from Mentors and Mentees.  In addition, he has personally contacted some of Metrolina’s most distinguished Project and Program Managers to participate as mentors in the program.  Doug has been a member of Metrolina since 2014 and has held several volunteer positions in Marketing & Professional Development.  It is phenomenal volunteers like Doug that make Metrolina one of the best PMI Chapters!

Volunteer Opportunities

It Never Too Late To Get Engaged
                By Nealand M. Lewis, PMP®, MPM, M.S.Ed., MBA, CICA®

I have a quick question for you.  So have you ever thought about
getting engaged?  Well ok... in all fairness, I guess I should qualify
that question.  I am thinking more in line of volunteering for your
Chapter.  Ha ha caught you right?

Ok, second question. Did you know that the PMI Metrolina Chapter
is staffed exclusively by volunteers?  Without your help, we could
never be one of PMI’s larger and more progressive Chapters.  Ahhh, you
didn’t know that huh? Well, we are.  More importantly, you have
helped make Metrolina the success it has become.

Becoming a PMI Metrolina Chapter Volunteer is a great way to:
             •  Earn valuable PDU credits.
             •  Give back to the PM Community.
             •  Network with other PMI Metrolina Chapter Members.
             •  Develop Relationships.
             •  Develop PM skills and experience.

Ok, my third and final question…. are you now impassioned and
irresistibly driven to volunteer?  If not, read this article again.
Maybe you want to volunteer 3 months.  Maybe a year.  If you have time
and would like to learn more about the profession of project
management, we want to work with you.

Metrolina uses the VRMS to advertise open volunteer positions
and manage the volunteer application process. It’s really easy to get
involved.  Soooooo… get off the sofa and log into PMI's Volunteer
Relationship Management System (VRMS) or go to Https://VRMS.PMI.org.

Looking forward to working with you!To apply for any of the open volunteer positions, please visit PMI VRMS
