President's Report

Autumn is in the air and the leaves have turned that lovely medley of amber hues.  We start turning our mind towards the holiday season and planning for time with our family and friends.  As a chapter, we start winding down for the year end celebrations and for many of us, a time to give back to others. Many of us give thanks for all that we have including our family and friends that support us every day. While this is rewarding, we should also recognize there are others less fortunate and I hope that you consider helping those individuals not only during this time but throughout the year. Consider other perspectives. Show Gratitude. Take Action. Have Courage. Find and learn from the hidden lessons.

“You may have heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. There's another day you might want to know about: Giving Tuesday. The idea is pretty straightforward. On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, shoppers take a break from their gift-buying and donate what they can to charity.”  Bill Gates

November is also Veteran’s Day and we will pay tribute to our active duty and veteran military members with a free registration to meetings in November. Please message me ( if you are an active duty or veteran member and need the coupon code.

“Twenty-five million veterans are living among us today. These men and women selflessly set aside their civilian lives to put on the uniform and serve us.” Indiana Congressman Steve Buyer

Volunteer Opportunities

It Never Too Late To Get Engaged
                By Nealand M. Lewis, PMP®, MPM, M.S.Ed., MBA, CICA®

I have a quick question for you.  So have you ever thought about getting engaged?  Well ok... in all fairness, I guess I should qualify that question.  I am thinking more in line of volunteering for your Chapter.  Ha ha caught you right?

Ok, second question. Did you know that the PMI Metrolina Chapter is staffed exclusively by volunteers?  Without your help, we could never be one of PMI’s larger and more progressive Chapters.  Ahhh, you didn’t know that huh? Well, we are.  More importantly, you have helped make Metrolina the success it has become.

Becoming a PMI Metrolina Chapter Volunteer is a great way to:
             •  Earn valuable PDU credits.
             •  Give back to the PM Community.
             •  Network with other PMI Metrolina Chapter Members.
             •  Develop Relationships.
             •  Develop PM skills and experience.

Ok, my third and final question…. are you now impassioned and irresistibly driven to volunteer?  If not, read this article again.
Maybe you want to volunteer 3 months.  Maybe a year.  If you have time and would like to learn more about the profession of project management, we want to work with you.

Metrolina uses the VRMS to advertise open volunteer positions and manage the volunteer application process. It’s really easy to get involved.  Soooooo… get off the sofa and log into PMI's Volunteer Relationship Management System (VRMS) or go to Https://

Looking forward to working with you!To apply for any of the open volunteer positions, please visit PMI VRMS

On the Path to Greatness

Nealand M. Lewis, PMP®, MPM, M.S.Ed., MBA, CICA®

Charlotte has a group of caring professionals that help transitioning veterans prep for civilian careers.  The group, Patriot’s Path, is under the very capable leadership of Noël Humphreys McCall, Executive Director.  I met with Ms. McCall this past week at a summer soirée to raise funds and awareness for military veterans on their path to new civilian careers. Several area professionals attended including Metrolina compatriot Ken Mayes.

(Pictured left to right: Ken Mayes, Noël McCall; Nealand Lewis)

Ken proudly serves as the Installation Program Manager for Fort Bragg’s Onward to Opportunity-Veteran Career Transition Program (O2O-VCTP), a champion for the professional training and certification of transitioning veterans and their spouses.  Many of the veterans that have come through the O2O programming also volunteers for Metrolina.

PMI Metrolina attended as our Military Liaison program very closely aligns with the mission of Patriots Path.  We both care for the forward progress and development of our veteran members and their families. We both believe in empowering and encouraging veterans in translating their experiences while navigating the complex civilian landscape of networking, elevator pitches and interviewing. I had a blast to say the least!

Come join the Metrolina PMI team and get involved in the path the greatness. Go to VRMS online and get engaged in one of several PMI Metrolina volunteer opportunities.
